NTB and Ethiopian Airlines sign agreement to boost tourism growth in Africa

In a significant move to strengthen Namibia’s global tourism presence, the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) has signed an agreement with Ethiopian Airlines Group, one of Africa’s largest and most successful aviation networks.

The agreement, signed in Addis Ababa by NTB Chief Executive Officer Sebulon Chicalu and Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew, marks the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing tourism cooperation, marketing visibility, and air connectivity between Namibia, Ethiopia, and key international markets.

Spokesperson for NTB, Flora Quest, stated that under the agreement, both parties have committed to collaborating on destination marketing, travel packages, business tourism, and media engagements.

Ethiopian Airlines will promote Namibia across its global network, while NTB will feature the airline as an official partner in its campaigns and tourism events. The partnership will also introduce special travel packages, joint familiarisation trips, and coordinated efforts to attract Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) traffic.

Chicalu described the partnership as a “great achievement for Namibia’s tourism sector,” noting that it opens new opportunities for travellers to discover Namibia’s unique natural and cultural attractions.

“By joining hands with Ethiopian Airlines, we are reinforcing our commitment to positioning Namibia as a competitive destination in Africa and beyond,” he said.

Tasew said that the collaboration was a step towards unlocking Africa’s tourism potential. “Through this MoU, we aim to create more avenues for travellers to experience the beauty, heritage, and hospitality of both Ethiopia and Namibia.”

The partnership is expected to boost tourist arrivals, enhance Namibia’s global visibility, and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

Quest said that it aligns with NTB’s broader strategy to form impactful alliances that promote sustainable tourism growth and position the sector as a key driver of national development.

Ethiopian Airlines currently serves more than 135 international destinations across five continents, offering one of Africa’s most extensive aviation networks.

This MoU represents a defining step in Namibia’s efforts to expand its tourism reach and reinforce Africa’s collective presence on the global travel map.
