Mazda’s nifty CX-30

The classy CX-30 makes it look easy

The new Mazda CX-30 is the kind of automobile that one gifts oneself as a reward; it’s just such a nice-to-have. In fact, just looking at this thing of beauty is enough to make anyone smile.

So sleek, so stylish, so elegant - as to effortlessly encourage a sense of admiration even from a distance - the Mazda CX-30 really makes her statement with leather finishes that characterise the interior.

Mazda’s driver-centric philosophy shines through with the interior layout and accoutrements. The seamless integration of high technology and timeless, understated design elegance, sets this car apart.

Comfortable cloth seat covers cushion driver and passengers alike, while multiple-direction adjustments to the front seats provide for the perfect driving position. Lumbar support is standard and even power adjustable in the top of the range ‘Individual’ variation.

Push-button start will ignite that incredible two-litre SKYACTIV-G engine, capable of kicking out 121kW at 6 000 revolutions per minute, or 213Nm of torque at 4 000 revolutions. The six-speed automatic transmission is enhanced by the flick-switch engagement of sport mode.

Effortless is the only way to describe the sensation of driving the CX-30, while exhilarating comes close to expressing the feeling when overtaking slower road users.

Anticipating your needs

The low-key heads-up display projected onto to the lower front windscreen typically illustrates how the CX-30 anticipates driver needs, and provides for them in the most unobtrusive fashion. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and grearshift knob ensure that quality and comfort are always at hand, making the CX-30 experience perpetually classy.

Simple thoughtfulness embodied by the back-seat retractable centre armrest with cupholders is automated through features like the self-dimming rear-view mirrors, perventing blinding from inconsiderates approaching with brights on from behind. Meanwhile, auto-levelling headlamps ensure that CX-30 drivers are never counted among those inconsiderates.

Power-folding exterior mirrors, front rain-sensing wipers, auto on/off headlamps and cruise-control are all built-in examples of the Mazda CX-30 approach to applied technology. The MZD Connect system integrates with Apple Carplay and Android Auto to make the most of the 8.8-inch display. Whether through the eight-speaker sound system or the BOSE 12-speaker sound system with subwoofer featured in the ‘Individual’ variation, the quality of the CX-30 is inherent and always obviously audible.

Also, the vehicle is able to interact with the owner’s smart phone at a distance of almost 30 meters, putting so much more connectivity at your fingertips, even outside the car.

Safety first

Standard safety innovations include an anti-lock braking system, electronic brakeforce distribution, emergency brake assist and dynamic stability control. Airbags are provided, both sides and curtain for the front passenger and also for the driver’s knees. Child restraint anchor points are included, while pre-tensioners and load limiters improve on the height-adjustable shoulder anchorage of the seat belt warning system.

Auto door lock and Mazda’s super lock system work with the burglar alarm system and the engine immobiliser that come standard across the range. Mazdacare also provides a three-year service plan applicable no matter how many kilometeres have been covered, while the vehicle remains under warranty and enjoys road-side assistance coverage for the same period.

The CX-30 is available from local Mazda experts, Novel Mazda Namibia, and prices start from a little more than N$510 000.
