A new monitoring hub has been delivered to Mangetti National Park, providing the environment and tourism ministry with a dedicated facility to strengthen the coordination of anti-poaching and conservation activities.
Constructed from a repurposed shipping container, the facility has been converted into a practical operational space for frontline conservation teams working in the park. The hub is designed to improve communication, support surveillance coordination and enable more responsive field operations.
According to World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Namibia, the new facility provides the ministry’s personnel with a central point from which to monitor activities and coordinate conservation efforts, helping teams respond more efficiently to developments on the ground.
Mangetti National Park, situated in north-eastern Namibia, forms part of the country’s protected area network and is home to a range of wildlife species. Strengthening monitoring and anti-poaching capacity is considered important for protecting these resources and improving the effectiveness of protected area management.
WWF Namibia said that the addition of the monitoring hub represents a targeted investment in conservation infrastructure, providing practical support to staff operating in the field. By improving access to communication and coordination facilities, the hub is expected to contribute to more effective surveillance and operational planning within the park.
The initiative also supports WWF Namibia’s strategic focus on strengthening protected area management and anti-poaching capacity.
