People of the Lower Zambezi fight back

Tourismus Namibia has often been criticized by the oil industry for disapproving of gas- and oil exploration in the Namibian Kavango-Regions and the Okavango River Delta in Botswana. Fact is that oil production in these areas cannot take place without leaving an indelible mark on the bio-diverse area covered by the Kavango–Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (a.k.a. KZTCA or simply KAZA-Park). But it is not only Namibia and Botswana that fight for the preservation of their magic surroundings. The Zambian people of the Lower Zambezi are concerned about mining too and have launched a campaign as well as petition addressed to Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema (Petition · Save Zambezi, Safe Zambezi · Change.org). Mining just has no place in these pristine natural surroundings that can serve more sustainable goals for years far exceeding the production years of mining, an industry that invariably destroys the habitat permanently.
