Watching antelope, lions, elephants and rhinos from the comfort of your couch - this has now become even easier for Namibians and fans of the country.

The live stream from the Okaukuejo waterhole in Etosha National Park is now not only on Youtube but also on the DStv channel Wild Earth (183). The live stream set up by Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) in April this year claims to have attracted up to 1 000 visitors a day, while the DStv channel reaches up to 5 million viewers a month from all over the world.

“This is an excellent marketing platform for Namibian tourism,” NWR said. “The initiative is the first in Namibia to show our wildlife with the help of a live stream camera and to be supplemented by expert assessments.”

The mixture of camera recordings, expert discussions and interactivity is particularly interesting. NWR was excited by the fact that viewers from around the world seem to keep coming back to live broadcast. This has the potential to boost tourism in Namibia.

According to NWR, live footage will be available on the channel's flagship show, SafariLive, morning and evening at sunrise and sunset. “SafariLive Sunrise” airs from 06:30 am to 9:30 am Central African Time (CAT) and “SafariLive Sunset” from 14:30 pm to 18:30 CAT.
