Rundu Beach invites visitors to relax on the banks of the Kavango

Rundu Beach is a popular recreational area in the Kavango East Region, offering visitors a riverside setting with facilities for relaxation, outdoor activities and community events.

The public recreational area and riverside park combine views of the Kavango River with landscaped grounds and amenities that appeal to both local residents and tourists exploring northern Namibia.

Well-maintained lawns, shaded picnic areas and paved walkways provide space for families, friends and travellers to enjoy the surroundings. The views across the river towards neighbouring Angola add to the area's appeal.

The facility includes children's play areas, open green spaces for exercise and outdoor games, as well as benches along the riverfront where visitors can enjoy the scenery. Designated picnic and braai areas allow guests to prepare and enjoy meals outdoors.

Rundu Beach also provides ablution facilities, parking and seating areas, making it a convenient stop for visitors passing through the town. The grounds are used for community gatherings, cultural celebrations, live entertainment and public events, particularly during weekends and holidays.

A highlight for many visitors is watching the sun set over the Kavango River, while early mornings offer opportunities to observe birdlife among the surrounding trees.

The area also provides access to river-based activities. Boat cruises operating nearby allow visitors to explore the Kavango River, view wildlife such as hippos and crocodiles from a safe distance, and enjoy birdwatching. Species commonly seen along the river include African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons and bee-eaters.

Located close to Rundu's hotels, lodges, restaurants and craft markets, the beach allows visitors to combine time beside the river with exploring local products and regional cuisine.
