Before the Cape Columbine lighthouse was erected in 1936 the shores of Paternoster were the unfortunate end to many sailing ships, one whose cargo of wine once stained the ocean red. The name Paternoster is believed to have come from a crew of Catholic sailors whose ship was wrecked in the bay some 300 years ago. Upon their deliverance onto the shore they prayed in gratitude - Paternoster “Our father”. Photo: Chloe Durr
