On the Namibian banks of the Chobe River, Serondela Lodge offers travellers a close-up experience of one of the region's most wildlife-rich landscapes, with views across to Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana.
Situated in the Kabulabula Conservancy, about 17 kilometres from Kasane, the lodge occupies a secluded position directly opposite the national park. Built on a seasonal island, it is primarily accessed by boat from Kasane – making the journey to the lodge part of the stay.
As the boat follows the river towards Serondela, guests may encounter wildlife along the way, offering an early taste of the landscape that surrounds the lodge.
Accommodation includes guest rooms, chalets and a family chalet, all positioned on higher ground overlooking the Chobe River. The freestanding units have private viewing decks and large windows that open towards the surrounding landscape.
Across the river, the Serondela area of Chobe National Park is known for its large elephant population as well as a variety of other wildlife.
The main lodge includes a restaurant, lounge and swimming pool, with elevated viewing areas overlooking the water. Guests can spend time at the lodge while keeping an eye on the river and the wildlife along its banks.
Activities are centred on the river and surrounding wilderness. Morning boat cruises and afternoon sundowner cruises offer different ways to experience the waterways, while nature walks and village visits provide an opportunity to explore the area on foot and meet people from nearby communities.
For those wanting to venture further afield, game drives into Chobe National Park on the Botswana side provide access to another part of the wider wildlife area.
The lodge is also linked to a community-based tourism model. Serondela operates in partnership with the Kabulabula Conservancy and forms part of a joint-venture programme associated with the Integrated Rural Development and Nature Conservation (IRDNC) and WWF Namibia.
The partnership brings together tourism, conservation and community participation, with the lodge forming part of a wider approach to generating tourism benefits while supporting the conservation of the area.
Serondela Lodge opened in March 2018 and is part of the Wild Waters Lodges group. Its small scale, riverfront setting and views across to Chobe National Park place the natural environment at the centre of the guest experience.
For travellers exploring Namibia's north-eastern corner, Serondela offers a different way to experience the Chobe – where the journey begins on the water and wildlife, wilderness and community remain part of the landscape throughout the stay.
